Galesburg IL Home Gets a Whole New Look

This home in Galesburg, IL has gotten an entirely new look in nearly every room. Say goodbye to all that golden oak and hello to a stylish new refreshed update! There was so much transformation throughout this home and we wanted to highlight a few of the updates here in a featured post. Lets begin in the kitchen. This home has a wonderful layout and already boasts an open concept feel that most new homes have. The oak woodwork, trim, and surfaces were in desperate need of an update.

This Galesburg family worked closely with a team at Village Home Stores on design, layout, and product selections that make you honestly feel like you are in a brand new home. For example, take a peek at the trim above the doorways in the above images. We removed the dated wood corner rosettes and built a new doorway topper design that is transitional in style. With so many doorways and windows in the home, this detail change really made a big impact throughout the entire property. Our Koch Cabinetry in the Bristol doorstyle has been painted in a bright White paint for the kitchen perimeter. The kitchen island repeats the same doorstyle in a Birch wood and Stone stain.

The kitchen is spacious and packed with great cabinet storage. The new kitchen island design includes an overhang on the back side with seating space for three. The front of the island faces the sink wall and includes centered large stack of pots and pans drawers with hidden top utensil slide out. Sliding shelves in one end cabinet and a pullout waste basket on the other end.

The L-shape of the layout includes a french door refrigerator and the cooking zone. This suite of appliances from our Whirlpool line also includes a microwave hood, dishwasher, and double oven range all in a fingerprint-resistant Stainless Steel finish. The electric double oven range has True Convection features in the lower oven and allows you to cook at two temperatures at once. The top oven cavity also has a very fast preheat.

The original kitchen had a similar perimeter layout, but the kitchen island was awkward in shape and location. The new rectangle design frames in the kitchen and allows those seated at the island to not have their backs entirely to the nearby dinette and great room. The area above the kitchen sink was updated as well. We bridged the cabinet space on either side of the window together with a valance, shelf, and crown molding.

One of the other transformation stories we want to share in the feature is the main view upon entering the home. The original entry had a oak-on-oak-on-oak staircase. The new owners of this home wanted a more updated look and a practical stairway surface for their young children and pet. We reworked this stairwell to include a carpeted runner and a two-tone white and warm gray stain similar to the kitchen design.
