LG is recalling four of its 86-inch 4K TV models due to concerns about tip-overs.
In a recall alert sent out on Thursday, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said the TVs can become unstable while on an assembled stand, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that could result in injuries or death, especially to children.
The problem doesn’t affect LG sets that have been wall-mounted.
The CPSC says that so far, LG Electronics has received 22 reports of TV stand instability, resulting in 12 reports of tip-overs, though no injuries have been reported. The TVs weigh about 100 pounds.
The sets, priced between $1,100 and $1,900, were sold at retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, and Walmart, either in stores or online, from March 2022 through September 2022.
The recall affects four LG Electronics 86-inch smart TV models—86UQ8000AUB, 86UQ7070ZUD, 86UQ7590PUD, and 86NANO75UQA—with serial numbers that start with 202RM, 203RM, 204RM, 205RM, 206RM, 207RM, or 208RM.
You can find your TV’s serial number, along with its model number, in the lower right corner on the rear of the model.
You can also check the serial number by pressing the mute button on the TV remote three times in rapid succession.
In a statement sent to CR, LG said that the TV stand is unstable only if it’s installed improperly, and that the product “is not defective and does not present a substantial product hazard or unreasonable risk.” According to the company, “when the stand is installed exactly as described in the product instructions, and all provided screws are used and properly tightened, this structural failure does not occur.”
To see if the recall applies to your TV, check the model and serial numbers on the back of the set.

What You Should Do
If you own one of the recalled LG sets, the CPSC recommends immediately detaching it from the stand and placing the TV somewhere safe and away from children. You should then contact LG Electronics for instructions on how to inspect the unit and to obtain replacement screws and stand parts, including help from a technician for a free repair.
There are several ways to contact LG about this recall.
You can text “STAND” to 256-888-9977 or call 800-243-0000 from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET, seven days a week. You can also send email to the company at 86inchTVstand@lge.com or go to the LG recall page.
CR recommends that TVs, especially larger or heavier ones, be properly secured to a wall or sturdy cabinet to protect everyone at home, especially children.
