Perth’s Best New Cafes, Coffee Shops And Bakeries Of 2022
Wanting to impress friends with a trendy new cafe suggestion for that next coffee date? We’ve got you covered. From North to South, the new openings around town seem to be endless with some of the best freshly baked pastries and dishes to satisfy any hunger, along with some fabulous coffee to wake you up too.
Here are Perth's best new cafes, coffee shops and bakeries of 2022.
Bagel-Os
Mount Lawley
Bagel O's is unsurprisingly home to very good, chewy bagels (the recipe has been perfected to the enth degree), but you'll also get great coffee featuring roasts from the legends at Micrology Coffee Co and nitro on tap, plus, a couple of great New York-style deli rye sandwiches too. They're using quality produce from local suppliers like Frank Torre, Kailis Bros and The Mushroom Guys and making everything they can from scratch in-house. Think: house smoked pastrami with soft egg and American cheese, Nona's meatballs oozing with mozzarella, tomato sugo and basil pesto, and a Cubano made with the juiciest mojo roast pork alongside swiss cheese, their own pickles, mustard, iceberg lettuce and dill mayo. Hats off to Chef Terrance, the bites here are all next level.
Butter Crumbs
Mount Lawley
Since closing their Inglewood shop a few months back with a promise of bigger and better things to come, we have been eagerly awaiting news from the cake connoisseurs at Butter Crumbs. And thankfully, that news is finally in. The crew behind some of Perth's most hyped baked goodies are back with a new Mount Lawley location. At the new shop they're doing more of those classic sweets—think: basque cheesecake, banoffee pie and strawberry shortcake—and savouries everyone loves, along with a fresh lineup of grab and go treats, sandwiches and coffee too.
Parkside Coffee
This cute new coffee window facing Stuart Street Reserve tucked into the leafy streets of the city is ideal for those keen for a caffeine fix and a sweet treat with pastries, sandwiches and food from Miller and Baker as well as some other local rotating bakers. Come grab a bite, sit in the sunshine and let the kiddies or pups run wild at the playground and park just steps away.
Goods Bakery
Just in case West Leedy couldn’t get any cooler, Goods Bakery has arrived on Oxford Close with some of the most delicious ‘gram worthy pastries that you won’t be able to resist. The best part? They’re open every day of the week from 7am - 2pm, meaning that you’ll never have to be without their goods (pardon the pun).
La Mortazza
Bursting with all of the cannolis, arancini and fresh made to order conti rolls your heart desires, this divine new Italian deli and cafe nestled into a leafy corner of North Perth is the ultimate culinary trip to the shores of bella Italia without the hefty plane ticket. They also stock a bunch of delicious pre-made meals (grab the meatballs if you catch them early enough) and goodies to take home such as a bunch of burrata
Welli Deli
We love a family run establishment, especially when they can make sandwiches this good. Based on Wellington Street in East Perth, this simple chic cafe boasts some serious NYC style melts (think Chilli Salami, Tuna Melt and the mouth-watering Welli Conti) and unbelievable gooey brownies that will go perfectly with one of their expertly made coffees.
General Store Melville
You may have seen some of the famous lunchtime lines at this new Melville hotspot on socials, but we can tell you, the wait for one of these conti rolls is definitely worth it. From their bursting açai bowls full of fruity delight, to their range of ready meals, excellent coffee and sundries, this is your one-stop-shop for catching up with pals whilst grabbing supplies for dinner saving you a trip. How good.
Charlie Boy Coffee
This cosy new little Northbridge cafe has just popped up with plenty of lush greenery and a cabinet full of goodies to set you up for the day. Located in prime position on the corner of William and Francis Street, this is the perfect place to organise that long overdue catch up in your lunch break or when you’ve got things to do in town. We can’t get enough of their cinny scrolls (of course) and their lemon poppyseed cake to die for.
Tom’s Providore
From the sweeping high ceilings, European-style open window frames, rustic furnishings and sky high walls of wine, this brand spanking new space is your one-stop destination for catch ups—whether it be for a morning post-jog coffee with the pooch, or a cheeky afternoon chianti with your besties, this cosy unassuming neighbourhood nook tucked between Beaufort and Brisbane Street makes you feel like you’ve stumbled on a little Melbournian neighbourhood bar in the heart of Fitzroy or some other trendy little suburb.
The Deli by Greenhorns
This delish healthy hole in the wall next to Mt Lawley S30 is loaded with fresh, nutritious wraps, rolls and salads for that post work-out hit along with one of their fresh juices or kombuchas. Ideal for people watching in Inglewood on the Beaufort Street strip, this addition to the original CBD location is super cute for a coffee and treat with the pooches or friends.
Hunter Bread
This small little quaint bakery in Bicton is nailing it. The concept is simple—every morning their chalkboard of goodies for the day goes up on socials, and then it’s a race to get down there before your favourite ‘longs’, ‘bigs’ or ‘smalls’ are sold out. Think beautiful flakey pastries, floury sourdoughs and some gorgeous spelt loaves too.
Hank’s Corner Cafe
There’s something special about a corner neighbourhood cafe, and Hank’s is no exception. This warm, super inviting little North Perth store sitting pretty in an old motorcycle repairs store on Scarborough Beach Road oozes charm and character with plenty of tasty treats (their rarebit toasties are our absolute fave) and lots of room to sit in the sunshine. We also love how sustainably focused they are with their eclectic range of op-shop mugs and their recycling stations making sure we’re taking care of our beautiful Earth.
Carina’s Kitchen
This vegan sweet tooth haven at The Mezz Shopping Center is Mount Hawthorn has a bunch of daily delights ideal for those trying to skip the nasties in their diets. Carina’s Kitchen believes in natural, honest and delicious cakes, pastries and healthy meals that look and taste gorgeous, and best of all create custom made cakes fit for a queen or king. Check out their insta page to get a glimpse of some of their brilliant designs and get ordering for your next big occasion!
Satchmo
Our hearts temporarily stopped when we realised Satchmo’s flagship North Perth store was shutting down, only to be incredibly relieved to discover that they were moving just a few doors down the road on Fitzgerald Street to a bigger, even cooler corner store. With all their usual suspects - New York style loaded bagels, jumbo, matzo ball soup - along with some new menu additions, you’re in for a stunning feed any time of the day.
Community Co Food Truck
Tucked into a Subi car park off Rokeby Road sits the new permanently parked Community Co Food Truck run by chefs Daniel Lim and Frankie Dawson serving up some unbeatable rotating funky Asian-style dishes to start your day right. From their unbeatable Egg Sando that has some of the fluffiest scrambled egg, cheese and paw paw chutney mayo, to their fried chicken sandwiches and noodle dishes, this is a dreamy spot to meet up with mates or spend some solitary time with a good book in the little outdoor parklet.
