Rock Island Kitchen Remodel With Blue Accent Island

This home in Southwest Rock Island was ready for a more updated and opened up design. While the home had an interesting layout, the kitchen still seemed separated from other nearby rooms because of a dividing wall. The Village Home Stores design and project management team took the original U-shaped layout and replaced it with a spacious new L-shape and large island. Take a look at this amazing new kitchen!

The large kitchen island has an overhanging countertop with space to seat four comfortably. Nearby is a dinette area where we built in a bench seat below the window. This new bench includes added storage drawers that match the kitchen cabinetry. Now these customers are shopping for a new casual dining table that can use in this corner. Many of our remodel customers want to maximize storage as much as possible with a new layout. Including bench seating within your island design or along a wall is a great way to create a seamless and custom look while adding storage.

The main kitchen includes an L-shape layout with the cleaning, cooking, and refrigerator zones. The new wall cabinets stretch to the ceiling and include a stylish crown molding detail. Crown molding, undercabinet molding, and added details like the fluted columns framing in the microwave space all help to create a stylish take on a traditional kitchen design.

Not every kitchen layout can allow a corner lazy susan cabinet. In the case of this kitchen, a susan in the corner would have moved the kitchen sink away from the center of the window. A blind corner cabinet can be used in this instance to allow usable space on one side, and a standard cabinet on the other. Our cabinet vendors offer many specialty options to help maximize your accessible storage. Press play below to see the swing out shelving option we included in this kitchen corner cabinet.

White painted kitchens remain to be a best-selling choice across all regions in our industry. Of course if you have ever gone to select a white paint for a project, you quickly realize there are MANY shades to choose from. The same is the case in our cabinetry selections. A stark White paint may not be what you are after. We have some that are a warmer Ivory or Pearl finish, and others that lean toward a cooler gray tone. This kitchen is the Oyster painted finish from our Koch Cabinetry line. In this home, the Oyster paint has been given a Smoke highlight to enhance the edges and molding details. We love the look of this finish. The Smoke highlight is such a great compliment to metal finishes as well.

The long kitchen island is installed in the same Legacy doorstyle as the kitchen perimeter. The Charcoal Blue paint is a rich contrast to the Oyster kitchen. This Charcoal Blue painted cabinet finish is among our top selling accent colors for cabinets. We have sold many kitchens, bathrooms, home bars, and laundry spaces in the Quad Cities area in this finish. Take a look at the hardware selected for this kitchen. How perfect are the stacked edges of the Calloway handles with the edge profiles of the cabinet doors and drawers!?

The blue accent color was also used on the wall surface of the kitchen. Elongated glass tiles from Glazzios Aristocrat Harbor Series are stunning! The Dim Afternoon color takes the tone of the blue cabinet finish and adds a glossy finish and texture to the overall kitchen. A beveled edge to the tiles bounce and reflect light and shadows and add a lot of style to the space without introducing multiple new colors.

The cabinet handles are a Satin Nickel finish and that is a perfect compliment to the Smoke highlight of the cabinet paint and the Whirlpool Stainless Steel appliance suite in the new kitchen. A new Whirlpool dishwasher, beverage cooler (in the island), electric range, microwave hood, and refrigerator have been installed in this new kitchen. The microwave hood included is the new low profile model available from Whirlpool. This hood takes up a similar height footprint to a standard under-cabinet range hood, but includes a 1.1 cu. ft. microwave in it! Wish your current hood was a microwave? This may be the model for you! Contact a team member at Village today!

The refrigerator in the new kitchen is surrounded by a great pantry cabinet on one side, and an end panel on the other. To assure that the space between the kitchen island and this refrigerator was as open as possible, a counter-depth model was purchased. Counter depth refrigerators can save you space in your layout and give you a cleaner look. Standard refrigerators can stick out an added 4-6+ deeper than a kitchen cabinet so be sure to discuss this depth with your designer at Village Home Stores.

At the very center of this incredible new kitchen is a large island with seating. This island is of an enviable size and also has no sink or cooktop in it. That makes it an incredible versatile surface for prep, entertaining, dining, and more. A slight arch detail has been applied to the overhang area for added interest. This arch also helps soften the look and scale of the large island.

Engineered quartz countertops surfaces in the Carrara Marmi design are an instantly classic surface choice. The look of a polished marble, with the hassle-free appeal of a quartz counter, these surfaces will look incredible for many years to come. A stylish Ogee edge was applied to all of the countertop edges in this kitchen. This one detail choice makes such a huge impact in the completed space.

This remodel project involved removing a wall. That means of course that ceilings would need to be worked on and of course a new flooring surface to tie the new open space together. The solid 3/4 Small Leaf Acacia flooring that was selected is absolutely stunning. When you walk into the home now you are greeted with the gorgeous warm flooring stretching all the way through the kitchen. We just love how it looks against the blue cabinetry.
